Perry Miniatures from their excellent 1815 range. |
Following on from my last command stand/vignette/diorama I thought it would be ideal to show you this particular grouping of figures which work very well together, These figures are depicting a Marshall at the table emphasising his strategy for the upcoming attack to his staff.
Everyone appears to be in accord with his plans with the exception of one particular aide who feels that the British squares may to too tough to break without sufficient infantry support!
"The Fool" has just been whispered through his clenched lips methinks.
Looking slightly miffed at the front, the Marshall stresses his point! |
This particular array of figures was inspired by Scott Merrifields excellent diorama "Reporting to Marshall Ney" and can be found here:https://djokergaming.wordpress.com/28mm-gallery/
As you can see, my stand is a 'hommage" to his excellent stand with only a few variations.
Rear view showing the scratch built fence and wild bushes. |
Not sure whether these should be apples or just well fed berries! |
Another view showing the attempt at depth and the juxtaposition of height to achieve a different look. |
This very much looks the part on the table and shows that a command stand can be much more than two or three figures on a round base with some flock on it...not that their is anything wrong with that mind you!
Another brilliant vignette! The Red Lancer is my favorite of the lot.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jonathon and yes, the Red Lancer is simply a gorgeous figure.
DeleteAnother cracking vignette. As an aside, I was somewhat confused a few years back to discover 'vignette' being used as the name for road toll receipt in countries that were once in Austrio-Hungarian Empire.
ReplyDeleteCheers Stepgen and thanks for popping by again. Yes, interesting language variations can be quite confusing at times. Road tolls all the way back to the AH empire - bloody hell they were getting their road taxes early weren't they.
DeleteWonderful modelling!
ReplyDeleteThanks Rodger
DeleteWonderful piece!
ReplyDeleteThanks again Mark - greatly appreciated.
DeleteSimply wonderful! The colours are glorious.
ReplyDeleteThe great attraction of this period isn't it Micharl? Those wonderful uniforms and vibrant colours were the thing that captured me as a young boy.
DeleteBeautiful painting and composition!
ReplyDeleteCheers Peter. The figures so easily compliment each other in many different variations. I really think the Perries do this style of commercial character figures better than most anybody.
DeleteExcellent botanicals, nice figures to and vignette is a good way to go.
ReplyDeleteI knew you would like the vegetation mate!
DeleteAbsolutely Fabulous figures and painting! ;o)
ReplyDeletecheers,
Thanks Phil. The lads from DPS painted these for me around six years ago and I think have done a wonderful job. I have had the figures in storage for all that time just waiting for the right inspiration to base them up and get them out there. Very pleased with the final result.
DeleteVery nice figures! I love vignettes - they add real flavour to the table!
ReplyDeleteThank you John for your very supportive comments. I do love vignettes as well and think they add so much to the look of a game, particularly the larger "demo" style games.
DeleteCarlo, your command bases/vignettes are the way forward I think and much, much better than just one or two figures to a base.
ReplyDeleteSuperb all round.
Cheers Pat and greatly appreciated. Certainly think they add a bit to the game and let's face it, those wonderful paintings do depict a wide gathering of generals and staff running hither and thither!
DeleteAnother grand playable vignette Carlo and another 10/10.
ReplyDeleteCurrently I base my lower ranking commanders on round bases and the higher level on square ones as a shorthand of their stature in the hierarchy. But now I'm thinking that your irregular bases are a much more aesthetically pleasing alternative. DAMN!!
Salute
von Peter himself
Hi Peter - thanks for visiting and your comments which are always appreciatd. The irregular bases were very much a throw back to the early pictures of Gildr and Mason command stands at the WHC which graced the pages of Miniature Wargames, BAttle for Wargamers and the early editions of Wargames Iluustrated. I like the look very much though I do still have commanders like yourself on round bases, the odd shaped ones are my favourites.
DeleteLovely Carlo, you create some stunning little works of art!
ReplyDeleteThank you Pail -,greatly appreciated mate.
