Napoleonic Russian Kharkov Dragoons 1805-07

A large regiment of Russian Dragoons from Elite Miniatures
Continuing on with my 1805-07 Napoleonic project is this regiment of Peter Moreby designed early Russians from the wonderful Elite Miniatures range.  Despite the limited amount of poses available in the codes - Officer, Trumpeter and trooper, there is sufficient variation and animation achieved by the various horses and the way the figures are mounted in the saddle.

One can only imagine what a supreme converter and designer such as Doug Mason, Mark Allen or a John Ray could achieve with these figures.

Wonderful Trumpeter figure with his instrument on his back and sword at the ready!

Nice view of the unique officers coloured comb on the helmets of the earlier period

Imagine this running down on you if you are a French battlaion still in line!!

Nice hand painted Imperial Cyphers

These figures, as I always say with any Elite Miniatures or Connoisseur figures, always look best "en masse".

  1. Oh yes! This is right up my street, as you say en masse is what works with these chaps.
    I shall enjoy this project.
    Best wishes,

    1. Thanks JJ - these are a lovely bunch of figures painted many years ago by friend Nathan. They look very good "en masse" as stated and on the field they can do some damage - under the right circumstances!

  2. Lovely looking lads Carlo and great to see them after all those years. I think I must have painted them about ten years ago...or was that Leroy?

    1. Great memory mate -these ones were you about 15 years ago can you believe. Leroy painted the regiment in yellow ravings and Gerry from Castaway Arts painted quite a few of the horses.

  5. Great looking Russian Dragoons. The Russian Dragoons do seem to have had a reputation for under-performing though. and that has certainly been the case on the tabletop in our area!

    1. Cheers Duke. They have big collected over many, many years as you can imagine and really do not get out enough hence the push to keep the 1805-07 project driving along.

  7. Those look great! The sculpts remind me of (far better versions of) my old early-90's 15mmm Russian Napoleonics. And that big block of horse is just fantastic visually.

    1. Thank you very much Dai. I knew a chap who had a gorgeous 18mm AB 1805 Russian army and it certainly looked the part.

  8. The Elite 1805 Russian range is one of my favorite Napoleonics figure ranges. As you say, the different horses provide a big pop of animation to the unit en masse.

    1. Hi Jim and thanks for popping by. Yes this range of Russians from Peter M is very good. The figures are wonderfully sculpted and they have a sturdiness to them which makes newer style figures seem porcelain like in comparison. Very hard to drop a few dice on the elite infantry and see a pile of broken bayonets. Try doing that with modern figures and there will be tears before bedtime.
I think their infantry for this period are delightful.

  9. Great unit Carlo, I may have to return to formal 1:20 unit sizes after seeing your recent units.

  10. Hello Carlo

I envy your ability to build multiple Napoleonic armies in multiple eras within the Napoleonic wars. I'm struggling to build multiple armies from one era within those Napoleonic wars! And big units like this Russian dragoon regiment makes it all the more impressive.

Long may the aggregation continue ... and long may we get to see images of that aggregation! 8O)
