Action at Eisdorf - Battle of Lutzen Part One

The action hots up around the village of Eisdorf

It has been far too long since I had played a Napoleonic battle at my place using General D’Armee. My old friend Paul has been painting up a fine Perry Miniatures Russian Army so the time was perfect to get together and fight through an old converted GdB scenario.

The great advantage of having a dedicated Wargames room is the ability to set up games and move through the rules and action at leisure knowing there is no pressure to conclude a game do that the table can be cleared for dinner.

The terrain being set up for today’s battle

The key books and rules for  today

So the initial setup has the Russians holding Eisdorf  and the French and their allies looking to push them out and occupy the village within 15 turns.

The Russians are in a strong position with the only mounted troops on the field, albeit Ukrainian Cossacks, however the French are a determined formation under Marshall McDonald.

Some more photos and information later in the week as something tells me some time working at home is on the cards.

  1. Looks lovely Carlo. Lovely representation of the Flossgraben too. Lutzen is a really interesting battle to play out. Focussing on the section around Eisdorf will make for a nice little scenario, no doubt. I'll look forward to finding out what happens!

  4. Great to see your Napoleonics back in action on the blog Carlo, just beautiful. I think you need a Chris Gregg battle painting to go on that spare wall beyond the stair railings, mate!

    1. Thank you very much Peter. I have made a solemn promise this year to play more wargames and less worrying about basing, organizing and the other wonderful paraphernalia that embraces our hobby. More tape measure, dice and miniature figurines on the table!!

    1. Thank you very much Mark. I am a very lucky fellow that my wife was generous of heart, and then of pocket, to see how much a dedicated room would mean to me. Its been great that my two sons have been wargamers as well as it does get well utilized.

  11. Its always good to see a table set up prior to the start of the game - it allows one the opportunity to unashamedly copy it! thanks

    1. Go for it Kerry - I've been copying from you for years ;^). However the stuff I see on your blog is all creative and original whilst this is a "plug and play" from GdB. Oh well...
