Seven Years War British Grenadier

A long time possession that always adds to the rooms ambience
My recent post highlighting Oscar the Wonder dog also raised some curiosity on the bust on the table behind my fine canine companion.  Well, whenever Richard M shows some curiosity, I very quickly move to ensure that that fine gentleman is informed and given some more details.

It is a replica bust of a Seven Years War British Grenadier though it could also be Hanoverian perhaps as the moustache might be more a German treat than English. It was acquired over 25 years ago in an antiques store in Mount Lawley for the princely sum of $190 Australian dollars which upon reflection was an absolute bargain.

That’s a base of Front Rank Prussian Grenadiers in front to give a sense of scale.
It’s a favourite piece and adds a bit of style to my Wargames room.

  1. He is a fine looking fellow indeed Carlo...
Have you ever looked to see if there were similar busts for other units by the same artist?

    All the best. Aly

  4. I wondered about the bust in your last post and you've answered all my questions. I agreed he does look more like a Hanoverian. Cheers Greg (Delta Coy blog)

    1. Thank you very much Greg. The certificate of authenticity certainly states British Grenadier but I thought they had a quite a strict rule on facial hair in the ranks. I could be mistaken.

  6. Carlo, your games room is stunning, perhaps classy would be a better description and this is superb. I am green with envy. I notice some of the photos on the wall in the earlier post
Can I persuade you to give us a post showing a "tour" of this superb games room?

    1. Hi Kerry. Firstly many thanks for your kind words. It is always greatly appreciated when things you like are liked by others as well. I distinctly recall seeing a wargame being played in an old photograph, I think in France, with a superb looking dark wood lined walled room and table with wonderfully crafted terrain and figures. I have looked so many times for the old image and have come up short every time.

I've worked so hard like so many in the business world and my only vice is this hobby and the little metal men that we enjoy gaming with. Thankfully my wife is incredibly understanding and my sons have shown an interest in the hobby which certainly keeps me going strong. If you would think it wouldn't be too much an act of vanity then I would certainly look at a bit of a tour post in future on the proviso that I see more of your superb room in New Zealand!.

  7. Its strange or funny isn't it, that feeling of guilt that I suspect we share at spending on our hobby, but it is the end result of a lot of work and some sacrifice over many many years though

    1. So true Kerry...and we do make a lot of sacrifices for the hobby. Its not as if I have a garage full of vintage vehicles etc. I think we just remember how we started in this wonderful pastime and if you were like me, it was on a very tight budget by necessity in those early school years. Minifigs strip figures! I thought they were sensational and then I saw my first 25mm Minifigs French Napoleonic figures. They were beautiful but out of my price budget. These days I am determined to play as often as I can and these larger style scenario games are really what I want to do. Very much looking forward to it.
