The French attack develops at Stare Vinohrady

The French brigade of Van Damme continue their advance on the enemy.
A photo heavy report this week folks as the battle starts to develop across the entire front. So far the action has been fierce in the trenches and the French are being commanded with hood aggression and purpose as they were historically. Inadvertently the far more experienced allied commander has dithered a bit with the Austrians.

Legere advance up the slope

Now here’s one for the books - a retreat result from a DT

Were’s tardy brigade allow the Austrians to take the village of Pratzen

Action around the vineyard

The Russians on the left flank start to fold back on themselves slightly

After rushing down the slope Jurzik loses his nerve and heads back up having garrisoned the village

Russian skirmishers sell themselves dearly against their French counterparts

Elite Miniatures French range is superb with so many variations

The French attack at Stare Vinohrady evolves

A close up of the columns

Austrian recruit classed battalions await the French

The White Menace in action

French columns advance up the slope

That French column may be a problem. Ben is proving a handful at the moment

The Austrian 3 pounder battery is in danger of being swept away

Anew across the slope as Van Damme advances

A dismal result in the charge phase sees a battalion rout immediately

Rear Austrian battalions look to change facing

A loss of fire discipline from the Smolensk Regiment on the slope

A desperate charge hits home

Action abounds on the French left

The battery is swept away and the Austrian position on the heights is precarious

Back on the French right St Hillares brigade is suffering from the battery fire

Another view of the French ligne

I do love this photo

Did I mention these chaps are lacking energy?

Those vines provide cover for the Russians

Rottermunds brigade oooks to realign as quickly as possible

The Russians hold on grimly on the Pratzen heights

The allied batteries continue their fire though at 3pdrs and 9 pdrs it has limited effects

The French prepare for a second wave of assaults

Elite Miniatures Austrians

St Hillaire looks on

A Falter! What’s occurred to cause this?

The casualty markers look the part in this games as well as serving their
Administrative role well.

The cause of the Faltering result. The battery receives 8 casualties before it can withdraw and dispersed.
So the game is progressing very well and proving enormous fun. Ben is handling himself well and I am enjoying the fact that I have a son who is a wargamer in the house playing Napoleonics with the “Old Man”. Doesn’t get much better than that.

  6. Great pictures and fierce action... and what would an Austrian commander be with at least some dithering?!

  7. Another great (hopefully interim) report Carlo. Those French have a steam roller feel to them. I guess time will tell.

That Pratzen model is great. A fine addition to the terrain catelogue.

    1. Hi Kerry. Yes it is wonderful to have Ben taking such an interest in Napoleonics in the midst of his studies. The ability to have a table set up and left until our schedules synchronize is a wonderful luxury.
