General D’Armee 15mm at the NWS

The Austrian Korps Command watches on…well the wrong way…as the battle rages on

We played another 15mm General D’Armee Napoleonic wargame at the club on Wednesday night as part of the learning of the rules for some new players and a chance to get more familiar with the intricate aspects of charges etc. for myself. It’s a constant education for this old grognard😉.

Very proud of my converted Impetus Austrian measuring stick!

Guidos brigade battling Chris’s superbly painted French

I painted 99% of these AB Austrians over 30 years ago. Trying to give them a bit
of a sprucing up with some washes etc. They could have fought a fraction harder

Lots of action happening in this shot

Peter, Big Chris, Daryl and myself are very much enjoying putting down roughly a division aside plus two yo three regiments of cavalry to fight out done detailed aspects.  All of us are bringing our own figures which is great in itself and though we are keeping the terrain reasonably “old school circa 1970’s” that’s simply for maximising playing time at the moment.

Another game next week should continue the fun!

  1. A lovely looking game Carlo…
I used to have some painted AB Austrians… but I decided that the scale was too small for me…
Which now seems bizarre… as I find my butterfly fluttering over the new Warlord Waterloo offerings 😁

Oh! And I’m blaming you for the fact that I picked up a book on Jena… 😂

    All the best. Aly

    2. Warlord Epic scale by the way has certainly created some chatter that’s for sure BTW.

  2. Great post Carlo. I am surprised with your experience at Gd'A that you still say you are learning, so there is no hope for me with only two games under my belt. However my second was last week and was with .......18mm AB Austrians! Paul B's armies are superbly presented and it inspired me to unearth old ones I have in my lead mountain, order more from Eureka UK, and savour my reference sources to revive my interest in the 1809 campaign next year. Battalions of 36 and 48 figures in 18mm really looked good on the current 12 x 6 table I have up. cheers Chris

    1. Why am I not surprised that you’d gave gaming mates with fantastic inspirational armies such as yourself in all scales Chris? We both should really live next door to each other you know😅

    2. That would be good.....I can dream. My wife would love your climate!!! We never got to Western Australia....Melbourne was far enough from the real world for a Pommie :-)

    3. It’s been a very hot summer so far Chris - a bit too much for my liking if truth be told. Many days above 35 degrees C which is warm. Thankfully we do have a pool and air-conditioning so survive we have!

  4. Good to see you all playing together. My solo playtest of GdA didn't get beyond 2 turns, which is hardly enough for a fair trial, but I kept finding myself asking "Why is it necessary to have three separate procedures to do anything? Couldn't this have been handled much more efficiently?" I'd only play again with an experienced player. None of that matters as long as you guys enjoy the games!

    1. Thank you Peter. The rules themselves are not all that complex however having pjs yes General De Brigade previously, many of the terms and style that David Brown writes in are pretty familiar. Would love to talk you through a game on Zoom or FaceTime if you’re ever so inclined mate.

    1. So do I Fish. I really enjoyed converting an old impetus measuring stick into the final product. Thanks for the visit.

  7. Nicely done Carlo, giving old figures a wash and touch up is well worth it even if the buggers don't show enough gratitude and hang around. It probably a variant on the known fact that any nicely painted unit will invariably run away in its first table outing!
