Spanish lights advance at the double |
Continuing with the Peninsular theme are some Spanish Light Infantry from the wonderful Connoisseur Miniatures range. These are available through Bicorne and though limited in the variety of poses, still look good all these years after being designed and sculpted by Peter Gilder. As you can see these still need a Dull Coat Matt varnish however the whether in Perth has not been conducive to varnishing anything at the moment as it has consistently been over 34 degrees Celsius and bloody humid!
I have always found that is a recipe for white powdery figures when spray matt coating.
Lovely pose on these figures though a bit more varety would have made them even better. |
Very Latino looking Capitano, resplendant in Hussar Pelisse and lovely waxed moustache! |
These were part of the volunteer style light regiments and battalions formed up and the uniform reflects the earlier years in the Peninsular Campaign which perfectly fits into the period we are gaming. Would love to get the Red coated volunteers painted as well though various sources say they were also the Cataluna Battalion. Either way, those crazy Spanish sure are colourful!
Some more line infantry are getting ready for parade soon.
I really like the Captain's pose, capering, would you say? They are a swarthy-looking bunch!
ReplyDeleteJust like my place on Christmas Day Simon with the Pagano's on maximum volume!!!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like quite a party, Carlo!

DeleteFrom what I can remember Simon it was!!. Sorry mate last reply was in capitals and the etiquette of using the electronic word got te better of me! Cheers
DeleteLOL, Carlo. :-)
DeleteLovely looking unit with a lot of character, Carlo. it seems the Spanish army of the Napoleonic Wars has been some much needed attention from manufacturers and painters in recent years. They are in my own painting queue for 2016!

Thanks Peter. I am really enjoying the Penînsular at present and the Spanish on the field does add a fair element of authenticity.
DeleteSpanish are on my to do list (which is a very long list).
ReplyDeleteAs for spray varnishing - I do it first thing in the morning before it gets too hot provided there is not too much wind. You are right about it turning to grey dust otherwise.
It's been dreadful Mark...the humidity has stopped me even venturing to grab a spray can of varnish!!
DeleteIf this is your standard basing, they could be used as either four bases forming one Blucher unit (a bit like Impetus basing coming from FoG) or just as a single base. Can even adjust the Blucher scale so its a regiment/battalion (although not sure how that might work out - but worth a try).
ReplyDeleteShall we look at 15 mm or dare I say it...10mm!!!!
DeleteAgain a very nice unit Carlo I once had a the same unit but in Front Rank Miniatures...now in our friends' Scott collection..maybe one day I will get them back
ReplyDeleteThanks Nathan - I remember the unit well. I think Scotty might get hanging onto that old army of hours pretty tightly.
DeleteThe preparations for war seem to be coming along nicely Carlo. Carry on!

Thanks Peter as do yours for a Waterloo at Wellington. Will be spectacular. Ours is at the North a Perth Bowng Club which hasn't quite got the same ring to it!
DeleteNeed to start concentrating on our Waterloo game shortly so the Penînsular may need to slightly go on the back burner.
I have been looking for an example of these two Connoisseur figures for ages - should have known that you would have some in your collection!
ReplyDeleteWonderful - so colourful. I have the Front Rank ones but I just don't like them as much as these.
They are a lovely figure Brian and once again though the poses are limiting, they do look quite nice and a bit more stylish tan the Front Rank ones on this occasion.
