Seven Years War British Grenadier

A long time possession that always adds to the rooms ambience
My recent post highlighting Oscar the Wonder dog also raised some curiosity on the bust on the table behind my fine canine companion.  Well, whenever Richard M shows some curiosity, I very quickly move to ensure that that fine gentleman is informed and given some more details.

It is a replica bust of a Seven Years War British Grenadier though it could also be Hanoverian perhaps as the moustache might be more a German treat than English. It was acquired over 25 years ago in an antiques store in Mount Lawley for the princely sum of $190 Australian dollars which upon reflection was an absolute bargain.

That’s a base of Front Rank Prussian Grenadiers in front to give a sense of scale.
It’s a favourite piece and adds a bit of style to my Wargames room.

A bit of company while I paint...

Looking pretty comfortable there big guy!
Just a very quick post today which for myself sums up the perfect Saturday morning.

A cup of tea, a chat with the family and then upstairs for some painting on a crisp morning listening to some classical music followed by a radio coverage of some violent game in the Australia Football League.

The bride was out doing some shopping and the “Wonder Dog” came up to keep me company.

Perfect!

Russian style buildings nearly complete

Coming along quite well in my humble opinion
Well things have started to move along quite well now. The 12”x 12” inch built up areas will be used to depict towns and villages for fighting over.  The key is versatility for the areas hence the experimental crop areas that can be removed as necessary once troops occupy the perimeter.

I really have enjoyed putting these together after so many years of them being 25% complete.

One more to put together in the coming week.

On the workbench - Hovels Russian style buildings

Hovels resin buildings and Charlie Foxtrot fences

Many many years ago whilst in England for work I decided that it was too good an opportunity whilst in the spiritual home of wargaming not to bring home some goodies.

So without hesitation I drove from Sheffield to Grimsby Town to visit the wonderful Coleman’s at Hovels and literally fill the largest suitcase I could find full of resin buildings in 25mm. Hougomont, La Haye Saint, Sudan buildings, ACW buildings and the entire range of Eastern European buildings.  The plan was always to use them for my 1805-07 and of course other Napoleonic games.

I had first seen these buildings in early issues of Wargames Illustrated and a Miniature Wargames. Inspirational.

How good does that look?  These early magazines never cease to inspire me.

Prussians on the assault. Elite Miniatures figures and Hovels buildings are quite the combination. I think
This photo is from the late 1980’s or early 90’s. For a young wargamer at the time it proved quite memorable.

After many years they are now getting close to being ready to rumble.

Cheers

Franco-Prussian Black Powder at the NWS

The Prussian advance towards the woods commences

Just a very quick post today showing off two good friends lovely collection of Wargames Foundry French and Prussians range of figures. Both Steve and Martin are doing a great job with their own little house tweaks and the game is playing very well.

I very much enjoyed commanding two of the Prussian brigades and a victory was the icing on the cake.  Great fun !
