Rules in the background and figures to the fore awaiting rebasing |
Many years ago good mate Mike W and I put in place our plans to play Pony Wars: B Company ain’t coming back by Ian Beck. We acquired our rules, starting collecting figures and then…we got distracted.
Ian Beck tragically died far too young in an accident and the rules, published by Tabletop games, became a sought after set as it was harder to get ahold of. In fact many aspects of the rules were “borrowed” by Peter Gilder for his famous Sudan rules used at the WHC. These were never published however some “clever” fellow did some work and they have been available for a new generation of Wargamers for quite a few years now.
The same is now available for Pony Wars!
Alternative Armies Plains Indians |
Some of Ian’s mates have put together this wonderful full colour version complete with events cards and it is fantastic.
Kibri 1/87 Wild West buildings I’ve had for thirty years - perfect size for 15mm |
Of course I had to get a hold of Airfix’s Fort Apache |
Mike, Mark H and I are very much looking forward to getting into this in a big way.
Watch this space.
Looking forward to seeing you game with the rules and figures.

DeleteFrom the shots, should be a barn burner of a game!
ReplyDeleteCan’t wait yo get started P.
DeleteThat looks absolutely great Carlo, and on realistic plains terrain will be very impressive. If the Sudan wars is anything to go by will give a very tense game too. Chris
ReplyDeleteToo true Chris. Gilder based a lot of the random movements on Pony Wars and that works superbly.
DeleteI still have an Airfix fort Apache somewhere. Brings back great memories.
ReplyDeleteI grabbed this on Marketplace and was quite pleased.
DeleteYou seem to be all set up. I’ve heard a lot of buzz about these rules in my own circles so I’m looking forward to your battle report. 😀
ReplyDeleteNeed to order quite a bit more and then paint but should be playing early 2022 I think Stew.
DeleteLooking forward to seeing them on the table!
ReplyDeleteCheers
Matt
Thanks Matty
DeleteWell done picking up a Fort Apache they seem to go for high prices these days and Pony Wars is only going to make them more attractive. What did you use your Indians for before Pony Wars? I reckon you've got c. 200 mounted braves!
ReplyDeleteHi Rob and you are 100% correct on Fort Apache. I grabbed these painted Plains Indianscabout eight months ago in anticipation of the rules being released. The Wild West town I’ve had for decades.
DeleteI have the original rules but never used them for the Wild West, I just bent them to all sorts of other periods to suit the armies others had available. My Wild West is 25/28mm for which I don't have the room to build on for Pony Wars.
DeleteGo Carlo! I played the Ian Beck rules back in the day. I still have a copy on m 'rules shelf' ( well shelves! Looking forward to seeing it being played!
ReplyDeleteThanks John Boy and great yo see you looking so well mate. I’m like you with I think three old copies on the shelf - why? No idea buddy but I just loved them so much. Great read.
