Calpe Prussian reinforcements arrive into barracks

1/ 3rd East Prussian Musketeers

Big Chris has completed another three battalions of my Calpe Prussians along with some Jager skirmishers.  I’m biased however I think Chris is one of the finest  painters of large armies in the world. I know uou see some amazing works of one or a group of figures however to paint hundreds of them to such a standard is truly incredible.

3rd East Prussian Fusiliers

Another view

Maybe another - I do have to show off my scratch built graveyard

Jagers skirmishing

An overall view of the undersized brigade
I’m so very happy with these figures. The sculpts from Peter Fitzgerald at Calpe are so wonderful and deserve a great paint job. Hopefully Chris slots me in again sometime in the next twelve months for another regiment or two.

    1. Thank you very much John. Recognise the inspiration behind my graveyard?

  2. You are so right - I zoomed right in to those photos and the quality (precision) of the brushwork is amazing for such painting in bulk. The graveyard allusion eludes me - do tell.

    1. Hi Rob. John Ray is an extremely interesting and unique gamer, sculptor and collector. His book self- published “ A Military Gentleman” is inspirational, full of first rate figures, photos and story. He sent out some mini- campaign pdfs many years ago and his graveyard full of SYW Russians was the inspiration for my attempt. His collection is unsurpassed in my opinion.

    1. I think of you Peter everytime I do anything with Calpe Prussians. I still have all our correspondence from 2003 I think when we were discussing the Prussians of 1813 and the research you had conducted etc.

    1. Thanks Aly. He has a very fine style which I do admire very much. Mine is a bit more haphazard however my “ Aly Wash” helps cover all kinds of painting sins😅
