1806 Early Prussian Cuirassiers

The lads awaiting some finishing touches

Two posts in three days - what a flurry of activity!

Well these actually were completed before Christmas. The actual troopers and officers were painted by the excellent  Reinforcements by Post and Neil’s excellent team. I then painted all the horses, added the shading and depth plus additional details on the figure’s and then based.

Bunting  Regiment No.12

Graf Henkel Cuirassiers No.1

Elite Miniatures make some magnificent figures in this period

These will look great battling the French on the tabletop

Great to get some heavies ready for the Prussians of this period. Really happy with how they look and I’m sure they’ll perform well on the field.

  1. Just getting the riders painted by someone else? That's an interesting idea as I enjoy painting horses and associated saddlery etc. but not the riders. Some real food for thought here.

    1. Hi Rob. These days I normally paint my own stuff about 75% of the time however a good mate of mine was getting some early Prussians painted by Neil’s team and I thought I would too. I enjoy painting the horses by using the oil method and I like using Aly Morrisons technique of a wash and highlights with very white uniforms. There were several details that needed picking out and correcting but verbally it was good.

Am I counting correctly - 24 figures per regiment? Yikes!

    1. That’s right Peter 24 figure regiments which I had originally planned to have 32 however very happy I’ve settled with this size. I’m very happy how that turned out.

  5. They look great Carlo. I have often looked at Elite Miniatures but don't have any in my pile as yet.

    1. Thanks Lawrence. My 1805-07 collection is almost exclusively Elites and they are unsurpassed in this period and range. I’m planning quite a bit of gaming in this era in 2023.

  6. these can’t be real cav bc they’re not all waving their swords in the air. But they look nice nonetheless. 😀

    1. Very funny you should say that Stew as my first and lasting image of Prussian Cuirassiers and swords is the very famous image of the Officers of the Garde du Corps Cuirassier Regiment provocatively sharpening their swords on the steps of the French Embassy in Berlin prior to the 1806 campaign by Felician Myrbach

  7. Hello Carlo

Big lads in their Prussian uniforms on their big horses and in big units. What's not to love? A splendid showing. 👍

And FWIW I prefer my heavy cavalry in at rest poses as they should be sitting at the back of the table somewhere for most of the game waiting for their time to come when the worn down enemy are ripe for that cataclysmic charge.

    1. Thanks Peter. I do like love the Elite Miniatures range so much and amazingly this 1805-07 range of French, Russians and Prussians have great variety but not in the cavalry where basically there are three poses, Officer, trooper and trumpeter. In the Prussians, Cuirassiers and Dragoons, all with sword down other than the Hussars…so Stew and I need to be Light Cavalry Beau Sabeurs! You’d be happier with the reserve heavy cavalry division with most of my mates waiting for the opportunity to pounce…with ferocity I’m sure.

  9. Splendid heavy cavalry Carlo…
Their metal weight must be fairly substantial as well…😁

    All the best. Aly

    1. Thank you Aly and very best wishes for the New Year. Yes they certainly “thunder” across the table as those Elites are hefty figures indeed.
