A mounted force looks to press the Spartan flank |
What a great game!
Once again Jeff C and I met on the fields of the North Perth Bowling Club to take on each other in an overdue encounter in Asia. Jeff took his Spartans in Asia whilst I had the Later Achaemenid Persian juggler ready for a big effort against their favoured opponents.
In sporting terms it was Buster Douglas versus Mike Tyson 1!

The mighty King Carlo with his Kardakes |

I’ll need a few of those casualty markers |
|
Scythed Chariots and bowmen |
|
Jeff’s Hoplite hordes with stone throwing shepherds |
|
Now that looks a bit impervious. Might need him to come off that hill. |
|
More Spartans with spikes, pointy things. |

Ditto… |

Frontal view of my lads |

These chaps would fight very well on the night |

These blokes couldn’t hit the side of a barn! |

Mercenary Greeks fighting for their Persian paymasters |
|
Veteran Guard cavalry behind javelin armed light cavalry. The less said about these lads the better. Maybe it was just Jeff’s skill? Nah! |

Egyptian Hoplites and more Persian Raw foot fighting as Hoplites |
I wish I had some action shots however I don’t!
The game was such a beauty that I forgot to get the iPhone out again. Suffice to say that Jeff went hell for leather through the centre with his flanks refused, protected by an impenetrable forest on one side and rough on the over.
The Persians washed to use their mounted superiority to turn the flanks before the Spartans could wreak total destruction against the weaker, raw Hoplite formations of their in the centre.
At the end of the day it was a near run thing with the Persians on the brink of destruction for quite a few turns. Then, as if by divine decree, some lighter troops got on the flank of the Spartan deep foot formations and finally managed to destroy them. Victory by the very narrow two medals.
As always with Jeff, the games are sensational fun and played in great spirit. I’ll be sure to take a few more action shots next time.
Greeks vs Persians - a classic match up in so many ways. Nice to see the Persians pull it off for once - well done!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Rob. It was a great stoush that’s for sure.
DeleteA cracking looking and sounding game Carlo…
ReplyDeleteAll the best. Aly
Cheers for that Aly. It was indeed a great deal of fun as Jeff is a good man who enjoys the game most of all.
DeleteYeah, once the dice start rolling in a good game it can be hard to remember to take out the phone again. And all we get are set up pics.
ReplyDeleteAs it should be actually. 😀
Absolutely Stew. It just flew as a game.
DeleteGreat looking troops, an a the Persians snatchy victory form the jaws of defeat!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Peter.
DeleteThe Spartans lost??? Oh no Carlo...can't have that. Rematch!!
ReplyDeleteI know John…who would have thought. I might take the Seinfeld stance in terms of a rematch - “I choose not to run!”
