The banter starts early! |
The view from the Roman left |
Cataracts deployed across from rough ground always ends up in tears! |
A view across the cavalry dominated Roman left |
The view across from the Persian right |
Love these battle mats |
The Sassanid right flank advances rapidly |
A view of the central Sassanid Command and their baggage |
The Romans send a flying column of auxiliaries and veteran lights to take on the enemy |
Action on the left |
Heavy action across the entire centre |
Things go well for the Romans however the Sassanids are relatively untouched |
Beautiful spectacle and both young men are now fully engrossed |
A unit of Equites Illyricani is destroyed |
Allowing the Sassanid Saravan to turn and view the Roman flank |
Action continues on the Roman right |
A view down the table |
That elephant needs support as the Romans continue to fight hard |
Looking great Carlo! :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Simon. The game is quite evenly poised so it will be very interesting to see which young man takes the initiative at this stage. Very enjoyable as the "Old Man".
DeleteMarvelous looking game, Carlo! I take it your sons picked up the rules quickly?
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely they did Peter and thank you for your kind comments on the look of the table. As you know one of the many strengths of TtS is the mechanism and the key memory points on "To hits" and saves etc. Lots of fun so far.
DeleteA great-looking game, and I know that feeling of one of your sons, post deployment. The trick is to master how to look unconcerned.
ReplyDeleteYou are spot on Lawrence. I remember reading a great article once in Miniature Wargames or perhaps one of the early Wargames Illustrated where one veteran wargamer wrote an article depicting almost every deployment error you could muster as a lesson for young gamers. Very useful indeed! Almost like an Ancients version of "The Defense of Duffers Drift". By the way, that young chap is looking to move those Cataphracts quite quickly!
DeleteThe colored stickys are a good idea. Obviously the winner will become son #1 and first in his father’s affection. 😀
ReplyDeleteThanks Stew - and yes. "Two come in, one comes out"...but lets keep that our secrret.
DeleteGood to see the boys enjoying the game and great to see some of the old Late Imperial Romans I painted nearly 17 years ago still going strong.
ReplyDeleteNathan
They both had a great time. I love getting those old Romans of yours out Nathan - always a pleasure.
